Aberavon RFC are delighted to announce the signing of George Merritt ahead of the upcoming season.

The dynamic forward arrives at the Talbot Athletic Ground with a reputation for high work rate, physicality, and an ability to make his presence felt all over the pitch.

Speaking about his decision to join the Wizards, Merritt said:
“Mutual contacts and Aberavon’s vision for the future really attracted me to the club. I think it’s all really positive — the coaching group, the players, and the ambition here made it an easy choice.”

Merritt’s path to Aberavon came through an old connection:
“Nick Fish used to coach me at university and got in touch. After speaking with Jason [Hyatt], everything just felt right.”

On his playing style, Merritt describes himself as:
“A nuisance and confrontational — I enjoy the physical battles and want to make an impact. My game is built on energy, carrying hard, and contributing in every area.”

He also shared his goals for the season:
“Individually, I want to really focus on my scrummaging and improve my ball carrying in tight areas. But most importantly, I want to help the team achieve success.”

Head Coach Jason Hyatt is equally enthusiastic about the new addition:
“George fits exactly what we’re about — he’s competitive, brings great energy, and has a strong work ethic on and off the pitch. He’ll add real depth to our pack and challenge those around him to raise their game.”

Merritt is set to join up with the squad immediately as preparations continue for the new campaign. Fans can look forward to seeing his trademark intensity and commitment in an Aberavon shirt this season.
