Preview: Llandovery v Aberavon

This Friday, Aberavon make the trip to Church Bank to face Llandovery in Super Rygbi Cymru, with kick-off at 7:30 p.m.

The Drovers enjoyed a strong campaign last season, finishing fourth in the inaugural Super Rygbi Cymru after winning twelve of their eighteen regular-season fixtures. In the play-offs, they defeated Pontypool 39–20 at home in the quarter-final before narrowly losing 29–28 away to Ebbw Vale in the semi-final.

The Wizards will be looking to improve on last season’s results against Llandovery, where they were beaten 33–26 at the Talbot Athletic Ground and 33–28 at Church Bank.

Llandovery have started this season in impressive form. They opened with an away win over Newport, claiming a try bonus point, and followed up with another bonus-point victory at home against Swansea. The Drovers then recorded back-to-back wins over RGC 1404, both home and away, again securing try bonus points. Their unbeaten run ended with a defeat at Ebbw Vale, but they responded with a home win against Bridgend, earning two bonus points. A loss away to Cardiff still brought a try bonus point, and in their most recent outing, Llandovery returned to winning ways against Pontypool at Church Bank, once again collecting two bonus points.

Friday’s game will be officiated by referee Ben Whitehouse, supported by assistants Andrew Moule and Spencer Clease.
