Preview: Neath v Aberavon

On Boxing Day, Aberavon is set to clash with Neath at the Gnoll for an Indigo Group Premiership encounter, kicking off at 2:30 p.m.

Neath have had a challenging season so far. The struggles commenced with an away defeat against the Wizards, followed by a home loss to Carmarthen Quins. The Welsh All Blacks continued to face setbacks, experiencing defeats away to Merthyr and at home against Pontypridd, though they secured a losing bonus point in the latter. The trend of losses persisted with away defeats against Cardiff, Llandovery, and Pontypool, the former earning Neath a try bonus point. Even the familiar turf of the Gnoll failed to provide respite, witnessing defeats to Ebbw Vale, Bridgend, and Swansea. However, amid adversity, the Welsh All Blacks showcased resilience, notably securing losing bonus points in those home clashes against Bridgend and Swansea.

In the WRU Cup, Neath suffered a 19-40 defeat at home against Ebbw Vale in September during the competition’s opening round.

In their head-to-head history in the Welsh National League, Aberavon and Neath have met 41 times. The Welsh All Blacks hold the edge with 25 victories to the Wizard’s 15, and one game ending in a draw. At the Gnoll, Neath leads 13-6 with one draw, yet Aberavon has emerged victorious in their last three visits to the ground.

The upcoming Boxing Day clash will be officiated by referee Keith David, with Steffan Edwards and Jason Griffiths providing support as assistant referees.
