Everyone at Aberavon will be saddened to hear that our former captain, Welsh International and Barbarian Ian Hall has passed away after a long illness.
Ian was born in Gilfach Goch in 1946 and played his early rugby for Pontypridd before joining Aberavon. He also played for South Wales Police.
He was known as a strong running centre or wing as well as having a fine defence. Ian was capped eight times by Wales, his first cap was against New Zealand coming just a week after his 21st birthday. He captained the Wizards in the 1971/72 season.
Away from rugby he was a police officer rising to the rank of Inspector.
Ian was a lovely man who will be sadly missed by his wife Jane, his family and many friends including us all at Aberavon RFC.
