Performance Analyst Appointed

Aberavon RFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Luke Charles as the club’s Performance Analyst ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Luke joins the Wizards as the club continues preparations for a landmark campaign, celebrating 150 years of Aberavon Rugby, and will play a key role in supporting coaches and players through performance analysis, video review and objective feedback.

A lifelong rugby enthusiast, Luke brings a wealth of experience from a variety of coaching and performance environments. His rugby journey has seen him work across community, pathway and professional settings, including roles with Penlan RFC, the Ospreys Pathway and a Performance Analysis placement with Exeter Chiefs.

In his role at Aberavon, Luke will be responsible for filming training sessions, coding performance footage, producing detailed reports and supporting players and coaches with video-based feedback. His work will help provide clear, evidence-based insights to support both individual and team development throughout the season.

Luke said:

“I am delighted to be joining Aberavon RFC and becoming part of a club with such a proud history, especially during its 150th anniversary year.

This opportunity represents another important step in my development as a Performance Analyst and I am excited to learn from the coaches, staff and players around me.

My time with Exeter Chiefs provided valuable insight into a professional rugby environment and reinforced the importance of detail, preparation and objective feedback. I hope to bring those experiences and lessons with me to Aberavon while continuing to develop my own knowledge and understanding of the game.

Most importantly, I am looking forward to supporting the club in any way I can and contributing to the success of the team both on and off the field.”

Head Coach Chris Davies welcomed Luke’s arrival:

“We’re really pleased to welcome Luke to Aberavon RFC. As a coaching group, we are always looking for ways to improve how we support and develop our players, and Luke will be a huge addition in that area.

Performance analysis has become an essential part of the modern game. Luke brings enthusiasm, a strong work ethic and experience from excellent environments, including Exeter Chiefs and the Ospreys pathway. His ability to turn information into practical feedback will help our coaches make better decisions and give players greater clarity around their performances.

This season is a significant one for the club as we celebrate our 150th anniversary, and it’s important that we continue to strengthen every area of our rugby programme. Luke’s appointment is another positive step forward and we’re looking forward to working with him.”

Luke’s appointment further strengthens the club’s management team ahead of the new campaign and reflects Aberavon’s commitment to creating a high-performance environment both on and off the field.

Everyone at Aberavon RFC would like to welcome Luke to the club and wish him every success in blood and black.
