Garyn Smith adds to the Magic

Aberavon Rugby Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Garyn Smith as the club’s new Attack & Backs Coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Garyn joins the Wizards coaching team as preparations continue for the club’s historic 150th anniversary campaign, working alongside Head Coach Chris Davies.

A highly regarded coach with a passion for player development and attacking rugby, Garyn brings a wealth of knowledge, energy and fresh ideas to Talbot Athletic Ground at an exciting time for the club.

His appointment further strengthens the coaching team as Aberavon continues preparations for a season that promises to be one of the most significant in the club’s proud history.

Head Coach Chris Davies believes Garyn will play an important role in helping drive standards and develop the club’s attacking game.

“Garyn was someone who stood out throughout the recruitment process. He has a genuine passion for coaching, a strong understanding of the game and, importantly, a real desire to help players improve and develop.

“As we continue building towards the future, it was important that we brought in people who align with our vision for how we want Aberavon Rugby Club to play and operate. Garyn’s values, energy and coaching philosophy fit that perfectly.

“We want to create an environment that challenges players, encourages growth and allows them to express themselves on the field. Garyn will play a key role in helping us achieve that.

“This season is an incredibly important one for the club as we celebrate our 150th anniversary. We have spoken a lot about earning the right to represent the badge and building something that our supporters can be proud of. Garyn shares that ambition and we are delighted to welcome him to Aberavon.”

Speaking following his appointment, Garyn said he was excited by the opportunity to join one of Welsh rugby’s most historic clubs.

“Aberavon is a club that carries tremendous history and tradition, but there is also a clear ambition for the future. After speaking with Chris and learning more about the vision for the club, it was an opportunity I was incredibly excited to be part of.

“I am looking forward to meeting the players, working with the coaching team and helping contribute towards what promises to be a very exciting season.”

Everyone at Aberavon Rugby Club would like to extend a warm welcome to Garyn and wish him every success in his new role with the Wizards.
