Match Preview | Ebbw Vale v Aberavon

Wizards Ready for Ebbw Vale Challenge

Aberavon travel to Eugene Cross Park on Saturday afternoon to face Ebbw Vale, determined to deliver a strong performance against one of Super Rygbi Cymru’s toughest opponents.

The Wizards head to Gwent looking to build on encouraging passages of play in recent weeks, while recognising the need for greater accuracy and consistency across the full 80 minutes.

Ebbw Vale, renowned for their physicality and powerful forward pack, will provide another stern examination. The Steelmen claimed victory when the sides met earlier in the campaign, and Aberavon will be keen to deliver a more disciplined and clinical performance this time around.

Head Coach Chris Davies believes significant work has been taking place behind the scenes to address some of the issues that have affected performances in recent weeks.

“We’ve been working incredibly hard behind the scenes to identify and nullify a few issues that have hurt us over the last few weeks. There have been some honest conversations, plenty of hard work and a real determination from everyone to put things right.

“We know we’re capable of playing some excellent rugby, but we’ve also been our own worst enemies at times. It’s about finding that consistency, looking after the ball and making sure the work we’re doing during the week translates into performances on a Saturday.”

Preparations have also been complicated by a growing injury list, with several members of the squad currently unavailable for selection.

“Our medical and performance staff have been working tirelessly to get the wounded back on the field. It’s been a challenging period with injuries, and their work behind the scenes often goes unnoticed. They’ve been outstanding.

“Naturally, we’d love to have everyone available, but that’s rugby. Injuries create opportunities for others, and we’ve got complete faith in the players who will pull on the jersey this weekend.”

Despite those challenges, Davies is looking forward to testing his side against one of the competition’s most physical opponents.

“Ebbw Vale is never an easy place to go. They’re a very good side, incredibly physical and well organised. We know exactly what sort of challenge awaits us.

“But we’re not going there simply to compete. We want to impose ourselves on the game, play with confidence and demonstrate the improvements we’ve been working so hard to make.”

As Aberavon continue their historic 150th anniversary campaign, Saturday presents another opportunity to turn hard work and promising performances into positive results.
