Wizards Name Side for Ebbw Vale Showdown

Aberavon have named their matchday squad for Saturday’s Super Rygbi Cymru clash against Ebbw Vale at Eugene Cross Park, with Rhys Thomas leading the Wizards into battle.

Head Coach Chris Davies has selected a side determined to deliver a positive performance against the Steelmen, as Aberavon look to build greater consistency following a challenging opening period of the campaign.

Captain Rhys Thomas partners Lewis Marsh in the second row, while Theo Malik, Luke Davies and Eli Cowan form the front row. Evan Weston, Elis Cox and Ashton Evans complete the forward pack.

In the backs, Elis Horgan partners Stef Jac Jones at half-back, with James Price and Garyn Smith combining in midfield. Morgan Williams and Felix Gilbert occupy the wings, while Scott Delnevo starts at full-back.

The replacements include Scott Whitlock, Owen Popple and Charlie Thomas, alongside Callum Bolland, Ben Owen, Tyler Murvai, Brandon Owens and Sam Jardine.

With injuries continuing to affect squad availability, Davies believes the challenges have created opportunities for players to step forward.

“We’ve had to manage a difficult period with injuries, but that’s part of the game. Our medical staff have been working tirelessly to get the wounded back on the field, and their efforts behind the scenes have been outstanding.

“We’ve also been working extremely hard as a coaching group to address a few issues that have hurt us over recent weeks. There have been some honest conversations and plenty of work put in by the players. Now we need to see that reflected in our performance.”

The Wizards will be familiar with the challenge awaiting them at Eugene Cross Park, having already faced Ebbw Vale earlier this season.

“Ebbw Vale are a very good side, particularly at home. They’re physical, organised and will challenge us in every area of the game.

“But we’ve got confidence in this group. We want players to back themselves, take responsibility and play with real intent. We know what we’re capable of, and Saturday is another opportunity to show that.”
