Aberavon supporters will notice someone missing when the season starts with the home SRC league fixture against Bridgend a week Saturday on the 12/9 at 2.30pm.

For the first time in over 30 years Richard Morris (George) will not be involved as part of the match day package at the Wizards. Following his retirement as a player he moved seamlessly into a pitch side team managers role which he has held since he finished playing in 2014 having clocked up an incredible 539 games in the red and black jersey.

He has quite rightly decided to spend his Saturday afternoon’s watching his son James play youth rugby for Tonmawr where he is also involved in a coaching role with the youth team. As the games clash with our fixtures then sadly he will no longer be available to assist us, but I could not think of anyone better as a role model for any young player looking to develop through to senior rugby.

It will be really strange not to see him here on match days, on behalf of everyone at Aberavon I would like to sincerely thank him for everything he has done here, words from me do not really do justice to what he has given to this club.

Also a big thank you to James for his help for the past 12 years as both ball boy and then a water carrier helping his Dad out on Saturday afternoons here, good luck from us all for your first season in Youth rugby which starts next weekend.

So a massive thank you to George, James and of course Claire, please accept our very best wishes and we look forward to seeing you back here during the season.
