One of the greatest props in the Welsh semi-professional era sadly calls time on his rugby playing journey
Aberavon Rugby Club can today confirm that long-serving prop and club legend Rowan Jenkins has retired from rugby, bringing an end to an outstanding career that saw him make 342 appearances for the Wizards.
Since making his debut more than a decade ago, Rowan has been a central figure at the club — a powerful presence in the front row and a respected leader in the squad. His dedication, consistency, and passion for the game made him one of the most dependable and admired players in Aberavon’s proud history.
Aberavon Head Coach, Jason Hyatt said:
“Rowan is, without doubt, one of the finest players to ever wear the Aberavon shirt.
Rowan earned a reputation as one of the most powerful scrummaging loose head props in Wales , and Im sure there are many tight heads out there who will sleep better knowing Rowan has hung up his boots.
Rowan’s consistency, loyalty, and leadership over the years have made him a true icon of the club.
342 appearances is a phenomenal achievement, and we are forever grateful for everything he has given to the Wizards. We wish him all the very best in his retirement and hope to see him around the Talbot Athletic Ground for many years to come.”
Rowan’s contribution to Aberavon goes far beyond his on-field performances. He has been a role model for younger players, a standard-bearer for the club’s values, and a constant presence through highs and lows.
The club will formally recognise Rowan’s incredible career ahead of the new season.
From everyone at Aberavon RFC: Thank you, Rowan. You’ll always be a Wizard.
